MATHEWS, Ruth: ? – 1998

Ruth Mathews, 93, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 5, 1998.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Big Valley Cemetery in Chillicothe with Wallace Clay, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St.

Mrs. Mathews was born in Wolfe City. She lived in the Medicine Mound community until 1968 and in San Antonio from 1968 to 1978. She lived in Dumas from 1978 to 1988. She had lived in Amarillo since 1988.

She married Hulen R. Mathews in 1922 at Sunset. He died in 1959. She also was preceded in death by a son, Clyde L. Mathews, in 1984.

She was a retired farmer and a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. She was active in the PTA and the Medicine Mound Home Demonstration Club. She was named Homemaker of 1955 in northwest Texas.

Survivors include a son, Glen N. Mathews of San Angelo; a daughter, Ouidon Preston of Amarillo; a brother, Bill R. Hendrix of Nocona;seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
