LEWIS, Orvazine: 1920 – 2011

Orvazine Lewis, 91, of Quanah, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, in Vernon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, in Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Jones, pastor of First Baptist Church in Quanah, officiating. Interment followed in Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Quanah.

She was born March 25, 1920, in Eastland, a daughter of the late Robert William and Fannie Taylor Brown. A longtime resident of Quanah, she married Elbert “Monk” Lewis on July 16, 1937, in Quanah. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was formerly an activity director of the Quanah Nursing Home, a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Bonanza Belles Birthday Club for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers; a son, Robert Lewis; and two grandchildren, Tiffany Mason and Don Lee.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Inks and Carolyn Hughes, both of Vernon; a son, Billy Lewis of Vernon; a sister, Opal Williams of Weatherford; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
