JOHNSON, E.J., Jr.: 1926 – 2011

E.J. Johnson Jr., 85, of Quanah, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, in Quanah. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Quanah with the Rev. Wayne Hollinshead, pastor of First Christian Church of Quanah, officiating. Interment will follow in Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Quanah.

He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Quanah, a son of E.J. and Alice Poole Johnson Sr. A lifelong resident of Quanah, he was a Quanah High School graduate and attended a year of barber school. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He and Betty Smith were married on Dec. 31, 1948, in Quanah. Johnson was a farmer and rancher and owner of Midway Barber Shop. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a former member of the Airport Board, and served as a Hardeman County precinct election judge for many years.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Eddy Wayne on Sept. 5, 2004, and Johnny Dean on Sept. 17, 2005.

Survivors include his wife, of Quanah; two sisters, Janiece Trout of Azle and Johnnie Hutchens of Fresno, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the funeral home.
