FLOREZ, Pedro P.: 1936 – 2011

Hardeman County native Pedro P. Florez, 75, of Abilene, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in an Abilene medical center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, officiated by Juan Gomez and Jesse Benavidez, with arrangements under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home of Abilene.

Florez was born March 12, 1936, in Hardeman County, a son of Elvira Carlota (Perez) and Santos Zapata Florez. He married Maria Ofelia Perez on March 30, 1956. She preceded him in death. Florez moved from Quanah to Abilene in 1960, where he was employed by Gooch Meat Packing Company and later owned and operated Florez Filter Service. On July 17, 1995, he married Martina Coronado. He enjoyed playing golf and chess.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Santos P. Flores, Goyo P. Flores, and Juan P. Flores; and sisters Jovita Belamy, Guadalupe F. Perez, and Elma P. Flores.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Carlos P. Florez; a stepson, Javier Salinas; two daughters, Nicaela P. Gonzales and Elizabeth P. Cobarruvias; a stepdaughter, Marisela Mendoza; four brothers, Carlos P. Flores, Ricardo P. Flores, Ramon P. Flores, and Francisco P. Flores; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
