DAVIS, Wayland: 1934 – 2012

Wayland D. Davis, 77, passed away at his home in Quanah on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Wayne Hollinshead officiating. Burial will follow in Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Wayland was born on Sept. 28, 1934 to George (Shorty) and Allie Lee (Carver) Davis. He lived most of his life in Quanah and owned Davis Plumbing Company and Davis Bail Bonds and was former owner of Dutch’s Restaurant. He married his long-time companion and best friend, Vickie Dee Smith, on Sept. 10, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a former member of the Quanah Jaycees, Quanah Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Professional Bail Bonds of Texas. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

He had courageously fought multiple myeloma for the past six years and was an inspiration to those around him. His zest for life and positive outlook will forever by a comfort to those who loved him. He adored his family and was anticipating the arrival of two additional great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife and caretaker, Vickie, of the home; three children, Dina Leal and husband Mando of Quanah, Mike Davis and wife Lois of Quanah, and Mark Davis and wife Sunnie of Quanah; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Ava Lee Collins of Perryton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
